elliot weekly: week 4

she was seriously guarding that pacifier!!

what we've been up to this week:

Tummy Time: Elliot has been racking up some serious tummy time. She makes the funniest noises and is already trying to scoot around and reach for items on the play mat. Huge shout-out to Laura for picking out such a fun mat!

Easter: Christ is risen, Christ is risen indeed! Josh and I made it back to church this past weekend and the timing couldn't have been more perfect. Elliot was so good during the service and it was beyond good to be back with our church family! It may have been a little bit ambitious to take a three week old to church, but it was so, so, so good to celebrate Jesus this year. He is the foundation for our marriage and family and I was so glad to share that with Elliot. After church, we rode up the mountain to spend the afternoon with Josh's extended family to celebrate Easter and Grandma's 83rd birthday. We managed to get a picture of the three of us (don't have too many of those!) and a four generation picture (Grandma, Steve, Josh and Elliot.)

Growing like a weed! Elliot is finally fitting into some of her smaller 0-3 month clothes. Its exciting to finally put her into something other than the white tshirt from the hospital! Thanks Chelsea for the super cute onesie; when in doubt put a bird on it, right?!

Walks, Walks, Walks: Elliot has cashed in some serous time in her jogger stroller. Our neighborhood isn't that great for walking. So, we've been heading over to Elizabeth's (and Hef's!) neighborhood for our walks. There are tons of routes and lots of shade, what a perfect combination! Also need to give Aunt Lauren a shout-out for the BOB stroller; it is a lifesaver! You can't tell in this picture, but Elliot is wearing a "I love my Aunt" shirt.
catching up with Elizabeth after a walk.
she loves Elizabeth--look how peaceful she looks!

Belly Button: Elliot's umbilical cord finally fell off on Tuesday. The blog-world said that it should only take 10-15 days to fall off....but our little babe held on to hers for 25 days. I guess she was just too attached to it. bahaha. Get it? Attached?!

ok, i know the picture is seriously nasty
but i had to share what i have had to look at the the last four weeks
sooooo glad this is gone!

yay for elliot being four weeks old today!
we love you!!

where she lays her head

Welcome to Elliot's room!
We've got this sweet little bird, from Hef, just outside her room.
Gotta love friends that shop on Etsy!!

this is what you see when you walk into elliot's room
well, there's ususally a baby in the crib

here's where we store elliot's clothes
we got this baby for FREE and i slapped a few coats of white paint
ta-da!

we are borrowing this beautiful crib from our friends elizabeth and john
i got the idea for the fabric and embroidery hoops from apartment therapy
i got the fabric from walmart (the $1 section) and the hoops from goodwill

we store elliot's less cute baby stuff (diapers, wipes, etc) in this old pie safe
we stole it off the side of the road
i guess its not really stealing if someone had it in the trash
and its not really side-of-the-road since it was at my friend laura's house :)
my favorite items here:
vintage paris map (actually wrapping paper) framed in wood from josh's great-grandma's 100 year-old house
write frame containing note written on back of grocery store receipt (its where we were brainstorming elliot's name at the hospital and practicing her monogram)

i spend A LOT of time in this glider
sadly, we did have to purchase this beauty at a real store
i mean, i did use a coupon....but paying nearly retail HURT!
meanwhile, i only paid $5 for the end table (which i spray painted green and got a cool drawer pull from anthropologie)

josh had this ladder when we got married
i hung a couple of my mom's vintage day dresses on it
the white dress is what elliot wore home from the hospital

my in-laws built this beautiful bookshelf for me last Christmas
i had it filled with books i love and my crafting supplies
now its filled with elliot's books, toys, blankets and stuffed animals
i put some special items from my and josh's childhoods on the top two shelves

where we change elliot's 230982309 diapers
the changing table was a hand-me-down from our friends cassie and will
i couldn't find any baskets to fit the shelves so i made these wooden apple crates
the project nearly drove josh crazy...but it was the one project i actually finished before elliot was born!
i just finished and hung the moss-covered letters today
they are meant to tie into the whole "natural" theme we're attempting (wooden boxes, twigs on chandelier, etc)

a few random shots of things i love in her room:

thanks for stopping by to check out elliot's room!
i'd love any additional ideas you have to make her room even more special :)

simple life

life around our house has been pretty simple. i spend most of my time taking care of elliot and my biggest trip around town has been to walmart. it has really made me think about the small, but wonderful, things that bring life to my life; time with Jesus, my loving husband, sweet daughter, good weather, dear friends...and this video.

josh sent me this video and i died laughing (and may or may not have wet my pants a little bit.) the song was originally written by ricky skaags, who's a favorite around our house. here's a japanese band covering the song (they're called "hot rice" and i'm not kidding!)

elliot weekly: week 3

My sweet baby girl is three weeks old today. I cannot believe that I was holding her for the first time almost exactly three weeks ago this minute. How the time has flown! I have changed 1209874598724598123908 diapers (seriously thinking about buying stock in Pampers), sang half the chorus to "Go To Sleep" by the Avett Brothers 29023923092309 times (enough to actually know the words by now OR actually take the time to learn a real lullaby) and fallen head over heels in love with Elliot.

What did we do this week? A LOT of this:

(yes, we finally gave in to the pacifier! we only let her use it when we CANNOT calm her down.)

Ok, we did have a few ventures outside of the house. Elliot and I went on a couple of walks in Elizabeth's neighborhood. We also managed to sneak in a few meals out with friends and family. A highlight of mine was playing on Hef and CT's Kinect.

Josh and I had a blast.
Elliot, on the otherhand, was not too impressed:

I promise to one day, post something interesting...maybe even about something other than motherhood or babies. But until then, I'll leave you imagining my glorious life of spit-up, sleeplessness and baby-love.
